Patient Discharge Status Code

Description

The code used to identify the status of the patient as of the CLM_THRU_DT.

Comment

* MS-DRG codes where additional codes were available in October 2013 are: 280 (Acute Myocardial Infarction, Discharged Alive with MCC), 281 (Acute Myocardial Infarction, Discharged Alive with CC), 282 (Acute Myocardial Infarction, Discharged Alive without CC/MCC), and 789 (Neonates, Died or Transferred to Another Acute Care Facility).

This variable is coded, and will contain one of the following values.

03Discharged/transferred to skilled nursing facility (SNF) with Medicare certification in anticipation of covered skilled care -- (For hospitals with an approved swing bed arrangement, use Code 61 - swing bed. For reporting discharges/transfers to a non-certified SNF, the hospital must use Code 04 - ICF.
04Discharged/transferred to intermediate care facility (ICF).
05Discharged/transferred to another type of institution for inpatient care (including distinct parts). NOTE: Effective 1/2005, psychiatric hospital or psychiatric distinct part unit of a hospital will no longer be identified by this code. New code is '65'.

08Discharged/transferred to home under care of a home IV drug therapy provider. (discontinued effective 10/1/05)
